Mel Frances

Mel Frances is a games & experience designer and a writer, working across the intersections of art, science, technology & maths.

She makes interactive experiences - books, performances and games - that travel to unknown places, speculative futures and alternative realities. Her work is for people who like adventures, probing rules, and finding hidden possibilities. 

She create games and experiences exploring complex systems, climate justice & speculative futures.

She writes playful & interactive narratives, from experimental video-games to escape room books.

She is a creative mathematician, developing projects that combine scientific concepts & mathematical processes with creative practice.

Mel has worked on projects with organisations from Chatham House to Greenpeace. Her work has been presented at venues and festivals from Watershed, Bristol, to Now Play This to the London Design Biennale.

Mel is the Co-Artistic Director of Produced Moon: an XR theatre lab based in Glasgow. Produced Moon create mixed reality experiences, live performance and participatory projects, creating experiences that are playful, magical & unsettling.

Mel is also a member of Mod, a collective of playful activists who use games and playful experiences to modify our world
